Privacy notice

Last updated: 8 October 2026

This notice explains what personal information Rote collects through this website and when you get in touch, and what happens to it.

Who we are

Rote is run by Jake Backhouse from Cape Town, South Africa. For anything about your information, email jake@rotehq.com.

What this website collects

  • This website does not use analytics, advertising trackers or cookies of its own.
  • Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to run and secure the site.

When you book a call

Calls are booked through Cal.com. Cal.com collects your name, email address and anything you add to the booking, and passes it to us so we can hold the call. Cal.com's privacy policy applies to their service.

When you email us

We keep your emails and the details in them so we can reply and follow up on what you asked about.

How we use your information

Only to respond to you, to arrange and hold calls, and, if you go ahead, to deliver the work you've asked for. We don't sell your information, share it with anyone for their marketing, or add you to a mailing list without asking.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry details only for as long as they are needed for the conversation and any work that follows, and then delete them. If you'd like your details deleted sooner, email us and we will.

Client work

When Rote builds a system for a business, it runs on that business's own accounts, and Rote does not store or copy the business's client data. That work is covered by a separate written data processing agreement with the business.

Your rights

Under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and the UK GDPR for people in the UK, you can ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, and object to how we use it. Email jake@rotehq.com.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator in South Africa or the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK.

Changes to this notice

If anything here changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
